Malibu sessions are typically scheduled at beachside private residences along PCH, with the light dictating the schedule: morning sessions for cool tones, late-afternoon sessions for the warm golden window. Discretion and privacy are standard.

Boudoir photography for Malibu clients by Marilyn Lou Boudoir

Malibu clients book fine art and editorial boudoir at higher rates than any other LA market. Sessions often tie to a specific home, a specific room, or a specific window of light the client wants captured.

Malibu clients book the studio specifically for natural-light editorial work in their homes. The aesthetic matches the architecture, the studio team travels efficiently, and the privacy standard matches the client base's expectations. Most Malibu sessions are commissioned around a single specific outcome rather than a generalized portrait.

Fine art leads, with classic close behind. Wall art commissions are the dominant product order from Malibu, often sized for primary residences. Album orders are common as a paired product to wall commissions.

Malibu questions

From Malibu clients.

Can we shoot during golden hour?
Yes. Most Malibu sessions are scheduled around the natural light at the chosen residence. We typically time the active photography portion to start one to two hours before sunset, with hair and makeup completed earlier.
How do you handle privacy at beach-facing properties?
Sessions are scheduled at private residences not visible from the public beach. We do not shoot on the publicly accessible portion of the beach.
What does a Marilyn Lou Boudoir session cost in Malibu?
Session fees start at $399 for studio sessions and $549 for location sessions. Hair and makeup is available. Products are purchased separately. Most Malibu clients invest between $1,000 and $2,000 total.
How long is the session for Malibu clients?
Plan on four to five hours start to finish: 60 to 90 minutes of professional hair and makeup, then two to three hours of directed photography across multiple wardrobe changes and setups.
What if I have never done a boudoir session before?
Most clients have not. The studio is designed around the assumption you do not know how to pose, what to wear, or what to do with your hands. Every part of the session is directed.
